Outdoor sporting opportunities are plentiful, including Finger Lakes fishing, biking, hiking, boating, hunting, and horseback riding.

Bike on scenic country roads or trails that take you past vineyards, over wooded hilltops, through surrounding towns and villages, and along miles and miles of lakefront shoreline. There are rides for every type of rider from easy pedalers to avid road and mountain bikers.

Finger Lakes Biking Events

Highlander Cycle Tour
This Tour de France-type charity event takes place each year in the Finger Lakes during mid-September. There are five trails to choose from, plus individual and team mountain trails. Distances range from 25 to 130 miles.

Canoeing/Kayaking/Boating Around Canandaigua Lake
Bring or rent a canoe or kayak and go paddling on Honeoye, Conesus, Canadice or Hemlock Lakes or in the West River Marsh at the south end of Canandaigua Lake. Find peace and quiet as you float along. You may even spot a beaver, otter, or bald eagle.

If you want to water ski, go tubing, sailboard, boat around the lake, fish, or just party or sightsee, ski boats, bow riders, fishing boats, and pontoons are available for rent at local marinas.

Fishing Charters On the New York Finger Lakes

Grab your fishing pole and experience some great fishing in New York’s Finger Lakes. The region is known for its bass, salmon, walleye, pike, trout, perch, and bullheads. Many derbies are held here attracting anglers from all over the country.
A number of fishing charters are available to guide you to catch “the big ones” in the lakes.

Annual Naples Creek Rainbow Trout Derby
Each April 1st, marking the legal start of New York State’s trout season, the state’s longest continuously running Derby takes place in Naples.

Finger Lakes Rail Excursions

Finger Lakes Scenic Railway
Hop aboard for a nostalgic ride along some sections of track that date back to 1835. Seasonally-themed excursions operating May-December include Wine and Cheese, Blues-n-Brews, Fall Foliage Trains, Pumpkin Express, and the Santa Train. Trains depart from various locations across the Finger Lakes.


Finger Lakes New York Winter Sports
Winter in the Finger Lakes is a magical, amazing season, perfect for New York State winter vacations. As pure white snow blankets the forests and the hillsides, it’s time to get the skis, snowboards, and snowshoes out. Bundle up, hit the slopes, explore new trails, and truly discover a winter wonderland.
Bristol Mountain Skiing
Bristol Mountain Ski Resort, located 15 minutes from Naples in South Bristol, with a summit elevation of 2200′, boasts a 1200′ vertical rise. Bristol Mountain is the highest between the Adirondacks and the Rocky Mountains. The resort has 33 slopes and trails, including two terrain parks, and two half-pipes ranging in difficulty from novice to expert.
Hunt Hollow Ski Club in Naples is a private ski club offering its members an uncrowded, premier winter sports destination. The 400 acre ski area with an 825′ vertical drop has 80 acres of well-groomed downhill trails, 2.5 miles of cross-country trails, a terrain park, and a mogul trail. Cross-Country Skiing
Cumming Nature Center – Just a short distance up the road are 15 miles of groomed trails for cross-country skiers and a 2-mile loop for snowshoeing, open late December through mid-March. Running through pine forests and past frozen ponds, the trails vary in levels of difficulty. Cross-country trails are patrolled by volunteers from the Genesee Nordic Ski Patrol.
